I wouldn’t spend hours dissecting the flavours and aromas, but I’d certainly pour it for friends who are not into whisky to familiarise them with the spirit. The vanilla aroma I get in both might possibly stem from their maturation in the same bourbon casks. Image from The Whisky Exchange along with the commission link that goes towards ensuring Adam remains endowed with Arran whisky. Not that such a thing exists of course, and even if it did, the fact that an island 200 miles from Dufftown made the same sort of thing ought to put the final nail in whisky’s regional flavour coffin. They taste of Scotland, more obviously than even Cognac tastes of its region or the best Tequila of its mountain soil.

Finish: Medium in length which mainly consists of the sweet aniseed lingering on the tongue and a smattering of peaty smoke. The shortbread and the chamomile tea of the Arran 10 have been supplanted by the smoke and ashes, and I’m not entirely sure what to make of the Machrie Moor’s rubbery note. Hailing from Germany, expect a critical palate and direct, no-nonsense approach to analysing the pour in front of him as we discover where he sees its place in the whisky world. Palate: A robust dram with the typical orchard fruits of Arran coming to the fore over a layer of toasted brioche and red berries. Nose: Rich sweet spiced notes from a well matured Arran Single Malt, backed with the strength of peat smoke and ripe citrus fruits.Anyhow, these thoughts have been bouncing about my brain because a few weeks ago I was on Arran, doing my level best to pretend that the technological revolution never took place. The Spirits Embassy has been brought to you by award winning online retailer Single Malts Direct, who have over 15 years experience in carefully selecting the rarest and finest whiskies from every corner of the world. Slightly edgy, but without any off-notes - appears slightly younger than its 10-year-old brother, who was bottled at only 46%, but not significantly so. As you say, it is less a question of a whisky’s particular terroir, more the sense of places we carry with us. In its relatively short life, the distillery has built and maintained a good reputation among whisky drinkers.
