This is a book that is bound to upset and anger monarchists, but at the same time, I think there are valid republican criticisms of it to be made. This is a very timely reminder of the constitutional absurdity of our taxpayer-funded Royal Family that is at war with itself. Smith's writing style is often condescending and he makes a number of personal attacks on the royal family.

Graham Smith eloquently sets out the irrefutable logic for abolishing the monarchy and paints a picture of a better, more democratic future for our country. The events of the last couple of years are examined in particular detail, as they've really exposed the weaknesses of the British royal family both as an institution and as individuals. It just reaffirmed what I already think without being too revolutionary or bogged down in facts/figures. He takes the opportunity to look through many honourable but too often unsung European examples including, but not exclusively, the presidencies of: Ireland, Iceland, Finland and Germany. He has participated in countless live debates, including at Oxford, Cambridge and Durham Unions, and has been on the Today Programme, BBC Breakfast, BBC News, Sky News, Channel 5 News, ITN, countless local and national radio programmes as well as CNN, Al Jazeera, ABC (America), .The book also sets out a clear blueprint, not just of what kind of republic we should aspire to be – something that is often lacking in other republican texts – but also of the road to that republic. Monarchists, with a deep well of historical precedent and the benefit of the status quo to draw from, have answers to these questions.

I think it oversimplifies a bit for effect, especially when discussing constitutional reform, but is nonetheless a very good read. And the backend of the book title is also covered with process of removal of the monarchy and how a republican replacement can be introduced. Transworld have bought world rights in Abolish the Monarchy by the Chief Executive of Republic, Graham Smith, and publish next year.Prince Harry, seemingly on the run from his own family, and Andrew on the run from serious allegations of sexual assault.
