Designer Randy Flynn (making his debut with this game) also kindly includes a frustration-mitigation mechanism in the form of nature tokens. You will not only score for each of the five animal cards but also for your largest area of each type. Multiplayer it becomes lightly competitive, but still you're essentially just looking to make as many nice patterns out of terrain and animals as possible. The game is pretty easy to learn, and the artwork plus quality of the materials make this a good value.

This is a great abstract game and an excellent choice for those hoping to get their friends and family into board games. Players score points by creating the most harmonious spatial arrangements of wildlife, and also by creating the largest contiguous habitat corridors. The easy mode makes each animal score in a similar way, reducing the number of scoring conditions the player must learn. Ideally you can place habitat tiles to create matching terrain that reduces fragmentation and creates wildlife corridors, mostly because you score for the largest area of each type of habitat at game\'s end, with a bonus if your group is larger than each other player\'s.

Cascadia is a puzzly tile-laying and token-drafting game featuring the habitats and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest adorned with artwork by Beth Sobel. There’s also one or more animals on each hex ready to buddy up or keep its distance from other indigenous species! And if the regular game is just not enough Cascadia for you, there is the epic Achievements section at the back of the rulebook for even more chillaxed crunchiness! But whenever I play Cascadia, it always feels like a win because it is such a wonderfully chilled but crunchy experience.

And I am not the only one who thinks so – Spiel des Jahres Game of the Year 2021 winner is an epic achievement and thoroughly well deserved in my humble habitat loving opinion!Maybe hawks want to be separate from other hawks, while foxes want lots of different animals surrounding them and bears want to be in pairs. The BGG details we have so far allow players to include natural landmarks in their sprawling habitats, granting dynamic endgame scoring bonuses. I thought the game was close to perfect as it was, except for maybe a promo pack of additional animals to be released.

You will find a great mix of long-term strategy and short-term tactics available as you work to solve each new puzzle. You can mix up the scoring using different cards and every game does feel slightly different depending on what comes out of the bag. Take a journey to the Pacific Northwest as you compete to create the most harmonious ecosystem in Cascadia. Intermediate mode increases the challenge of the spatial puzzle, without adding complex scoring conditions.

It involves a dual-layer puzzle that progresses over time as more habitats and wildlife are added to each player’s individual ecosystem. Note that if 4 Wildlife Tokens are all the same, this is known as “ overpopulation“, and they are removed and replaced with 4 new randomly selected ones.
