Tessa Gray - the main protagonist of the series, Tessa is a warlock who grew up in the mundane world. So if you're looking for a fun light read and well-written escapism fiction then this really is the book. Can she possibly do any worse to draw attention upon herself and Will by screaming and being impulsive and ACTING LIKE A FIVE YEARS OLD KID IN GENERAL! I liked the creepy clockwork army – that’s where my terminator references are coming from haha – and this expansion of the Shadowhunter’s world. Jem, who definitely gave me ace vibes, although I’m sure this isn’t canon, Henry and Charlotte were great.

But, we have to complete the full cliche, so of course Will has a mysterious past that leads Tessa to wonder how he copes with all of that pent up darkness… however, I’m slightly intrigued what it was all about. And the reference of 'Westerners=ghosts' fact is not some rarely known, difficult to access information, it's quite widely known that Westerners were/are being referred to as 'ghosts' by the Chinese. In the end, the only thing this book did for me was make me look forward to meeting the characters from TMI again, and I really hope that wasn’t the author’s intention.Sometimes everything a book needs are well-thought out and realistic characters and yes, this is exactly what “Clockwork Angel” delivers. It was her looking at the Internet culture going, “Huh… so people are really getting into steampunk, eh? Six weeks later, Tessa is held prisoner by the Dark Sisters, training her to " Change", or shapeshift—an ability which Tessa still cannot explain why she has.

When they confront her in the Pentagram that she is hiding in, Mrs Dark mocks them for falling for Mortmain and Nate's ploys. Although that was especially difficult for Clockwork Angel because SO MANY OF THE CHARACTERS ARE THE SAME.Apparently, this started out as Harry Potter fanfiction, and it should have stayed as Harry Potter fanfiction. I had started "City of Bones" (the first book of The Mortal Instruments by the same author) but it didn't work for me so I thought this could be the same but I was totally wrong. It added a new layer of enjoyment to my reading experience and I think I admire Cassandra Clare even more now. I mean, let’s face it, if the only good things I can say about this book are that she’s made slight improvements so that I no longer feel the urge to commit seppuku by diving head first into a meat grinder, then it’s not high praise. Oh, now I can see that all these Shadowhunters are a bunch of wimps, they can't even stop a rude girl from insulting their own guest, and we're supposed to believe they are the fierce protectors who stood between humans and demons?

She attempts to convince Tessa into running away and hiding into the mundane world with her, but Tessa is scandalized and gently turns her down. Jem Carstairs - Will's parabatai, Jem is a ward of the Institute whose life depends on a drug that also slowly kills him.But all is not what it seems in London, after being left with "The dark sisters" Tessa discovers her world is not what it seems - and neither is she! Tessa notices, however, that even though Will claimed he was drunk, there was no smell of alcohol around him. The new paperbacks will come complete with maps of London and a forward by me about writing the trilogy. And as for mundanes, have you ever thought maybe you’d be better at protecting them if you didn’t despise them all so much? Unaware of what happened in the attic, Jem tries to cheer Tessa up and takes her to his favorite place in London, the Blackfriars Bridge.
