The ratings for this book are pretty up there, so maybe everyone else just got something from this book that I didn't. This was my first story by Alex Bell, and I am looking forward to reading more from her in the future. However, haunted by the tragic death of her best friend and the spooky circumstances that led up to his demise, she arrives bringing more baggage than just her psychical ones.

Although the child is dead, my favourite character in this story is Rebecca due to the way her behaviour is portrayed. Frozen Charlotte follows Sophie and her cousins Cameron, Lilias and Piper as Sophie spends summer with them. It was hard to believe or trust any of the characters due to the constant change in plot direction and a case of unreliable narrator syndrome. Needless to say I absolutely loved it and read the whole thing from cover to cover in one sitting (no, not just because I was too scared to move).I'm trying a new thing where I want to start my reviews with buzzwords or buzz phrases about the books.

There are scenes that you can just hear and feel these scary little Charlotte dolls coming into you own home and into your dreams! The fact that the are real and that they have the rhyme that goes through the chapters of the book is even more creepy. Full of plot twists and turns and creepiness by the barrel full, if you like a read that will keep you guessing and get your heart racing - you've found it.

And I also liked Sophie, who starts out with feet of clay but ends up as a fully paid-up member of the evil-fighting squad. I actually picked this up at the library because I saw the cover and thought it might be a cute, fast read. I think I found out about this book from someone’s Halloween TBR and added it to my list as soon as they started talking about it and now this review has made me want to read it even more! When I first read the blurb of this book, I had not expected the sheer extent of how horrific Rebecca’s death would have been. Because of this I found it hard to create an attachment to any of the characters, with the exception of Cameron and Sophie whom I was definitely rooting for.

Our leading lady Sophie was probably the most well-developed, but I can't say that I ever really liked her. I could almost imagine this book being played out as a movie, one with a lot of silence and creep–up–on–you scenes. She immediately hits it off with Piper, who is always exuding charm and positivity as she takes over as host and prepares the food and shows her around. And speaking of the damn dolls, yeah I guess they were pretty creepy and awful, but I kind of feel cheated?
